Day 4 marked our departure from Phnom Phen to Kampong Thom.
We had another great breakfast as well as our first devotion lead by Pete. Ready for the day we soon departed in the van, thankfully with air conditioning.
We stopped at a fuel station for a toilet stop and found some very interesting snacks up for sale. One of the stalls displayed tarantulas (that were quite large!), cocoon worms, crickets, and a few other tasty insect treats. After our taste of crickets the day before, which weren't too bad more like a super crunchy BBQ snack, we decided the tarantula's were a bit too big of step up. At the stop, some of us also experienced our first squat toilet - it was interesting.
At around midday we arrived at our hotel. Once settled in, we set out in search of some food. Walking down the street we were definitely the attraction of the day as the locals around us found us quite interesting and couldn't help but give us a glance... must have been our good looks. Lunch was at one of the three possible restaurants in town excluding the markets and it was quite good.
At 5, Solkhon, our missions organiser for the next two weeks, came to meet us and give us a run down of the week to come. This brought about much excitement as plans of teaching/visiting children's homes, schools and churches were revealed.
Overall it was a good day and introduction for the weeks to come.
