[Uganda] Day 4 - Building Begins

This morning I was woken up to the beautiful sound of snoring floating down from the bed above me. Realizing I wasn't going to achieve any form of further sleep I got up and had the coldest shower of my life. My morning mood was soon improved though by the delicious aroma of cooking pancakes. After a hearty breakfast we all headed down to YSU to begin our first hands-on project. Luke and Agnes (who run the centre), told us all about their life story and their heart behind the centre. Then the hard work began, moving bricks, making machenja and building the walls up slowly, singing and dancing all the way (the playlist was fire!). After a strenuous but enjoyable day of work we began the short walk back to our home away from home. Only about a minute in ol’ mate Robert drove by in his ute. Thinking it would be an excellent idea, I suggested that we jump in the back for the ride home. Suddenly there was a rush towards the car as everyone that could make themselves fit piled in for the trip. Driving through Africa on the back of a ute was an awesome experience! I have honestly never seen scenery more beautiful. A range of card games, kicking the footy and group singalongs were spread throughout the rest of the time spent at home, as well as two of the girls stealing a neighbours kitten! Thankfully they returned it before anything could go wrong.
