Day 3 - A Little Taste

So our adventure's begun!!! Finally after many months of anticipation, a few nerves, a couple of hours on a plane and an eventful bus ride -we finally touched down at Suubi House. By this stage we were all a little tired-but not quite tired enough to pass up a delicious meal of spaghetti bolognaise awaiting us.

Judging by the initially quiet first leg of the bus ride, it it fair to say our first few hours in Uganda were a mixture of excitedness, confrontation and anticipation. A few of us politely declined tasting grasshoppers while others dominated trivia as we ventured out of the city... which took a little longer than expected, but nevertheless gave us all plenty of time to absorb the red dirt and luscious green landscape, while taking in some of the more 'eye-opening' aspects of Uganda.

We again got a further taste of Ugandan culture as we enjoyed Japates, rollers and sweet pineapple for breakfast. We then ventured into Jinja to explore and were warmly greeted with countless kind faces echoing 'you're welcome' and more than a few car horns, as we failed to wrap our head around the seemingly non extistant road rules.

After lunch we were warmly greeted by the mammas at the Village of Hope and got a little taste of the building side of things...namely the red dirt which we will be covered in over the next few weeks.

Our production line approach to the first hours of building further cemented the fact that as a team we have all become much closer in only a few short days, and the laughter around the dinner table tonight reflected everyone's anticipation as to the growth and fun to be had during the upcoming weeks.

This is very well written. The descriptions of events, activities and emotions help me to understand what you are experiencing. Yes, a new culture is confronting, confusing, exciting and fascinating all at the one time.
