Along with the Cambodia team, our flight left at 1am from Melbourne. It was a very smooth flight, and most of us managed to get a little bit of sleep. In Singapore we then said goodbye to Cambodia crew and quickly found some food to eat. Our flight from Singapore to Cebu went well, although we were all starting to look a little more washed out from little sleep! Someone commented as we were flying over the various Filippino islands saying, “it looks like Cairns crossed with Hawaii.”
The drive from the airport to our accommodation with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) took around an hour. The drive itself was already eye opening. Comments like “wow, he is balancing that timber on his head whilst riding a bike” and “look at all these dogs!”
We received a warm welcome when we drove into the YWAM base. Our bags were quickly brought to our rooms and we took some time to settle in before dinner. The boys quickly found the basketball rings (you can’t miss them, they are right in the middle, between our buildings) and we got to introduce ourselves to a couple of the students that live here. After a lovely dinner (the beginning of lots of rice) and a quick catch up as team we all found our beds quickly.
