This morning we woke to what felt like was the beginning of the end. Not only was it the end of our time at YWAM Cebu but it was also the end of our time with the beautiful staff and DTS students and the end of our ministry work.
We began the day with a beautiful breakfast consisting of scrumptious pancakes and apples before a change of plans saw us begin to hit concrete. At this stage of the trip, some of us thought we may hit a wall but never expected to be hitting concrete. We got underway with our assortment of tools (big and small) to dig a trench that would provide drainage at the base. While sweat dripped down our foreheads we were jealous of the size of our teammates holes (especially Brayden’s) and taught some of the Filipinos Aussie slang.
After a welcomed siesta time where some slept and some stocked up on snacks we gathered for our final feeding program. We returned to the site of our beach cleanup to a relatively new kids program. We sang and tried to dance to the choreographed songs with the children and also performed our skit and Australian song before some handed out food and others continued playing. It was a truly wonderful way to end our volunteering aspect of the trip.
Unfortunately I don’t have a ‘crappy’ story to share with our blog readers today but I couldn’t finish it without sharing about our amazing dinner and experience this evening. We were treated to a delicious meal followed by games, affirmations, a video and mingling. We have been absolutely treated like family here at the YWAM base and I personally will forever remember how welcomed they made us feel, allowing us to join in their programs and enter their home. So if YWAM Cebu ever read this, thank you!
