Day 14 - White Water Shambles

Dear avid followers (and Mum),

Today was the day where dreams became reality… aka white water rafting on the River Nile. Though there were some unfortunate events, everyone still walked away with a smile and a lifelong memory. It was a great day with no serious injuries and plenty of great stories! Some key highlights include:
  • Our fearless leader Joel losing his temper and headbutting an innocent schoolie victim, Naomi S, while going down a Grade 5 rapid called Overtime. Joel decided to not to follow instruction and kept facing forward when he should have been looking sideways (he’s a loose cannon) and took a helmet to the eyebrow. Joel’s day was ended after the first rapid and was off to hospital to get 3 stitches. SHAMBLES!
  • The ‘extreme’ raft decided to go on the “50/50” rapid which was a 50/50 chance of flipping over whilst trying to avoid the “very bad place” which was a 100% chance of flipping. Well we began on the 50/50 then due to some unfortunate wave patterns the Lord dragged us to the “very bad place” and it was all over! The boat flipped, every member was ejected, some people (being me) got stuck under another person (being Lachlan), and I may have felt I had breathed my last. In the end all was well everyone continued breathing and only small amounts of blood were lost.
  • The one and the only Ben Abbey decided to get in on the highlight reel by having another shambolic moment. The raft was stuck in a current and was being pulled into an island. They tried to paddle against it but were no match for mother nature and they met the island. In the midst of this Ben sitting at the front of the boat was clothes-lined by a low hanging branch and knocked completely off the boat, which was greeted by lots of laughter in the raft.

Our perilous journey came to an end by a swim in the Nile which will be remembered for many years to come. We were greeted on land with some tasty kebabs and a complimentary drink to re-live the many stories each of us had of the day. I am sure that no one will forget what happened today and the daring few will sign their lives away to do it again.

PS. For an concerned parents, including you Mum, every person who matters is actually OK so don’t stress :)

EDITOR'S NOTE: Much of the above 'banter' and slight sarcasm may give the wrong impression. Everyone is safe and well, had a great day and I, the editor & fearless leader, Joel, have another impressive scar for the ladies ;)

So glad all is ok despite the injuries to Joel I'm sure great memories have been made for you all. Being on the receiving end of this news from my daughter Naomi I did panic for a short while but I've had communication with her and all is well :) miss my girl 💕

The graphic description brought it all to life for us home in our armchairs. I look forward to reading Calebs first book if he takes up writing as a career.
