Today was "Jesus Fiesta", the most exciting day of the year for a lot of the kids. There was a change in the location last minute so we all had to be flexible and do some last minute rearranging, but it was amazing at how organised the event was even though it was changed so close to the time.
So for us, the Singapore group and the rest of the YWAM crew, that meant lots of preparation, working around last minute changes, cooking, cleaning, setting up and so much food as there were 1400 people coming. We bagged so much chicken, noodles and rice, we used so much plastic it makes me understand how there's so much rubbish everywhere.
The Fiesta went from 1-6pm. There were lots of presentations from different groups as well as a message, worship and some testimonies. We also got to do a fun skit where we displayed through a talent show how God looks at the heart and not at what can be seen on the surface.
The kids, all from 10 different slum locations where YWAM do weekly kids ministry (of which we joined in this week), were so excited to be here and they just wanted to run around and play with us. Each family received a 1 kg bag of rice, while each child received a small gift and everyone got a lovely meal of fried chicken, rice and noodles. There was even a special raffle draw, where 10 selected people received a 25kg bag of rice! It was amazing to be part of this generous celebration!
We had a lot of fun afterwards cleaning up, had a bit of a dance party, taught one of the Filipinos some Australian slang, and went and got some ice candy which is actually the best ice cream.
