After having a bit of a sleep in today we all woke up with mixed emotion mixed of excitement and a bit of the fear of the unknown but all that a side from we woke up the same as everyday. We were invited to go to the YSU (youth support Uganda) while being there we were able to witnesses some traditional dance that the youth held for us. Firstly it was the females that are part of the tailoring class do a welcoming dance where we had a chance to get involved. After that a dance crew showed us up with there intense and crazy dance moves so good it would put Michal Jackson to shame.
After spending a couple hours there dancing and praying for one another we moved on to the women’s prison, being there was surprisingly peaceful we were able to worship together and pray together which had a real impact on some of the team just by seeing the children in there and looking at these women in the prison with there own children.
After the prison we travelled to the slums, which everybody was unsure what to expect. Once we got there we were hit with the smells and the beaten down houses straight away once we got of the bus we broke up in groups and started walking through the slums while seeing children following you and people trying to take things from you, we then started going into the beaten down houses and started talking to the extraordinary men and women who live in the slums and hearing there stories really had an effect on everyone on the team we all began giving these families gifts and praying for them.
After the long and emotional day we all sat down and had a much needed debrief!
